Books and literature
Reviews and interviews covering everyone from Philip Pullman to Colum McCann, Kamila Shamsie to Onjali Q Rauf. Particular specialisms in literary fiction, sports and nature writing and literature in translation.

Theatre and music
Based in Manchester, I’ve also been Metro and The Stage’s theatre and gig reviewer in the North, covering world premieres of shows such as Life Of Pi, the Manchester International Festival and gigs covering everyone from Elvis Costello to George Ezra.

Television and film
Regularly commissioned by Metro and The National to cover press junkets in the North, primarily. Features include interviews with Jennifer Saunders, John Malkovich and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Travel and sport writing

I won a travel-writing award for a piece in Easyjet Traveller about a trip to see FC St Pauli, and had a regular column in Emirates’ Open Skies in flight magazine. Published features about NASCAR in North America and the rise of Singapore for Metro.

I’ve interviewed a number of current professional cyclists (Matteo Trentin, Alexander Kristoff, Daryl Impey) for a number of publications including Sports Illustrated, and had a weekly football column in Gulf News, interviewing the likes of Michael Owen and Denis Irwin on the issues of the week.

I review sports books regularly for The Observer and have my own cycling books blog, Bibliovelo.

Business, technology and social affairs features

I’ve written about interesting developments in business and technology and interviewed political and thought leaders for publications such as Monocle, Vision and Tech 4 Good.
