As Noel Gallagher’s album is released – and widely expected to do better than his brother’s – I wonder whether Liam is better off concentrating on his clothes shops. I went in Pretty Green in Manchester recently and was quite impressed… all of which reminded me of this piece I did for The National just after Amy Winehouse died surrounding her clothing line for Fred Perry.
“The range is rather tasteful in a retro-chic kind of way. Which is news in itself, because pop artists pretending to be designers rarely set fashionistas’ pulses racing. Not that the artists concerned seem to care too much about wowing the catwalks: in an era of diminishing record sales, it’s increasingly about the proceeds from the clothes.”
