Inspecting Gadgets in Geneva

Copy: Vision May 2012

>> A hands-free umbrella, or a teddy bear with wi-fi connectivity might sound like the work of a wacky inventor, but the International Exhibition of Inventions, held in Geneva every April, is serious business. I can see the wi-fi teddy bear working incidentally; downloading songs or bear sounds to it or something. Anyway, if some of the contributions from across the world seemed straight out of the comedy section of Dragon’s Den (would a succession of parachutes for stricken planes really work?) others really appeared to have the potential to change the way we live – even if they had ostensibly prosaic medical applications. I collated some of the more interesting ideas in this piece for Vision.
